It happened during a sleepover at a friend’s house.
Her parents were downstairs in the living room, and we were all gathered in her second‑floor bedroom.
We had bags of snacks and soda on the bed, taking turns telling scary stories.
At first, everyone laughed.
Stories someone heard at school, something a cousin said, a creepy video from the internet—
the usual stuff.
Then one friend said,
“Wanna try Bloody Mary?”
I said no.
But saying no only made everyone push harder.
They called me a scaredy‑cat.
Said we’d do it just once.
Turn off the lights, say her name three times, and that’s it.
So we went to the bathroom.
It was a small bathroom.
A mirror above the sink, and a shower curtain half‑closed beside it.
My friend placed a candle on the sink.
She turned off the lights.
Immediately, our faces in the mirror looked wrong.
With only the candle, our eyes looked sunken, and our mouths looked downturned.
We stood in front of the mirror.
My friend spoke first.
“Bloody Mary.”
We all repeated it.

Nothing happened after the second one.
